I went for a walk today, and something
nestled in the grass caught my attention
with a flash of color ...
as I watched, the color changed
from blue to yellow to red
and back again, like the sparkle
of a prism in the sun,
and while I knew very well
that it was a tiny fragment of
broken glass, there was a
gem-like quality to the
gleaming brilliance ...
I stood awhile, just admiring,
and I couldn't help but think
of all the different sparkles
the world has to offer ...
I thought of
frost on the windows,
of new-fallen snow,
and dewdrops
glistening like diamonds
in the morning sun ...
I thought of
moonlight shimmering
in silver paths across the water,
and starlight twinkling
through the treetops ...
I thought of faceted crystals
casting numerous rainbows
against the walls,
and soap bubbles,
each with their own
special luminescence ...
With so much color
and so much variety,
is it any wonder that
I so often see the magical realms
of pixies and faeries
adding their magnificent glow
to the world around me ...
